11th Annual Toast To Life Gala
“Two of the nicest people you could ever know,” noted Honorary Co-Chair Paul Winkler, were feted at the 2008 Toast to Life Gala held November 8th at the Westin Convention Center and Hotel. Two hundred and ten supporters came out to congratulate and thank honorees Bill Schmidt and Doug Miller for their energetic and committed service to the mission of Family Hospice and Palliative Care.

Tantalizing auction items, including an African safari, premier sporting opportunities, and high-end art and jewelry had the crowd abuzz, while music made for a lively dance floor.

Event Co-Chairs Eileen Pailey and Peggy Westbrook and their diligent committee are to be applauded for orchestrating an evening both elegant and fun.

We gratefully acknowledge event gold sponsors - Nadine Bognar, National City and Presbyterian SeniorCare - and all those who stepped forward in sponsorship.

Proceeds from the Toast to Life Gala continue to benefit the thousands of patients and families served by this non-profit hospice annually, including 200 families welcomed in the first year of operations at The Center for Compassionate Care ® in Mt. Lebanon, PA.

Note: We congratulate Jackie Johnson, whose name was drawn as winner of the 40" Samsung HD/LCD TV raffle.

“Friends” Card Party and Luncheon a Success

The 18th Annual Friends of Family Hospice and Palliative Care Card Party and Luncheon recently brought nearly 300 guests to South Hills Country Club for a splendid and successful gathering.

Event Chair Jane Johnson explains that what was originally the Card Party has grown beyond its' initial scope and size to include basket raffles, door prizes, a silent auction and a Treasure Table and fashion show featuring chic selections from Family Heirlooms, FHPC's resale shop, in addition to the savory luncheon and afternoon Bridge.

The Friends of Family Hospice and Palliative Care has as its' mission "to support the goals of Family Hospice and Palliative Care by raising funds, promoting public awareness and enhancing the spirit of welcome, warmth and compassion to patients and their families."

The proceeds from last year's Card Party furnished a patient room at The Center for Compassionate Care ®, supplied a computer for the social service staff and provided a massage chair used by FHPC volunteer and certified massage therapist Jacqueline George Algaier, who provides weekly massages for guests of patients at The Center.

Family Hospice and Palliative Care continues to be enriched by the efforts of these gracious and enthusiastic "Friends."
